Encounters have been commissioned by Situations to deliver new work for ‘The Tale’ in Torbay. The Tale will be a story told through public artworks, sound and theatre performances across the landscape of Torbay over nine days in 2017. The Tale combines three distinctive methods of producing arts in the public realm – the arts festival, the immersive promenade theatre and scattered-site visual art exhibition.
Artists, musicians, theatre-makers and performers have been commissioned by Situations to produce new artworks, events and participatory projects inspired by a new text, ‘Two weeks in August,’ authored by writer and broadcaster Philip Hoare in response to the landscape, towns, histories, people and unique geological heritage of Torbay.
We are in the middle of research and development for the project Encounters will deliver for The Tale and over the next year artists Ruth Ben Tovim and Shelley Castle will work on this project with varied local groups and individuals building on the links made during our Connect and Inspire Programme.
