Community Led Social Housing: Project Summary

Over the past six months Encounters have been coordinating a creative engagement process designed to catalyse a community response to housing people that are homeless in Torbay. The main activity involved planning and facilitating a one day creative engagement event to bring together organisations, groups and individuals concerned about homelessness in Torbay to:

  • learn about community-led housing solutions
  • develop ideas and priorities for how they may want to develop housing, or related projects, for people who are, or have experienced, homelessness.
  • explore willingness to collaborate to progress ideas or projects

Encounters worked closely with an extended reference group for the project to filter and interpret the responses from the creative engagement event and write these into a comprehensive and engaging report that documents the process and outcomes. Published this week, the report includes key insights, findings and overarching themes from the creative engagement event, as well as full transcripts of participant responses and planned next steps.

The project was commissioned by Torbay Council and key collaborators included Torbay End Street Homelessness Campaign (TESH) and Wessex Community Assets. Encounters would like to thank everyone in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham who got involved and helped make the event and the process a success.
