Cycles of Change
On this beautiful sunny spring day in Devon, surrounded by the daffodils, wild garlic shoots and snowdrops that mark this point of renewal in the turning of the year, it feels appropriate to share with you the new direction that we at Encounters have decided to take, as part of our cycle of renewal and growth.
For 17 years, we have worked with many of you to deliver some wonderful and life-enhancing projects, which have touched thousands of people. Out of these projects, many new shoots have grown, and the Encounters team have harmoniously made the decision that the time is now right to devote our energies to nurturing these shoots with the consequence that Encounters in its current form will close later this Spring.
There are many factors that have contributed to this decision and we will share more during the next few months as we celebrate and mark a series of ‘LAST TIME’ moments. One of these is happening this week in Exeter when we will be touring around the city with our mobile space Chrysalis to connect and engage with people for the last time as part of Net Zero Exeter. (See below and please join us).
It feels bold to be closing a company when there is so much sap and life still within Encounters but these times of Climate and Ecological emergency call for boldness and invite us to respond in ways that we hadn’t necessarily predicted or imagined. We recognise that this announcement may take some of our supporters and friends by surprise, but we very much invite you to be part of the process of marking the closing of Encounters, and we sincerely hope that many of you will carry on working with many of us in new and different ways in the future.
If you have been a participant, friend, supporter, collaborator, funder, commissioner of Encounters please save the date and join us to celebrate the 17 years of Encounters on Saturday, May 16th in Totnes. More details to follow.
Here is an informal video from Ruth BT co-Founder, Creative Associate and a Director of Encounters talking about the decision:
